Dr. Taha Jomha BMed Sci, DDS
I love being a dentist! It all started back in 2001 when I started my university career. I was fortunate to have worked a summer job as a dental assistant and I fell in love with every aspect of the career. Dentistry offers everything I want in a career; I get to help people, play with cool gadgets and run my own business! I completed 2 years of undergrad and then was accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta. I graduated as a general dentist in 2007.
My favourite thing about working is building relationships with people. I see so many different people from all walks of life and I feel that people have awesome stories. I will probably forget your name but I always remember a random fact you told me the last time you were in and of course I can always identify you by your teeth! I have been providing dental care for over 13 years and my most satisfying day is when I can help a patient in pain or when I have an anxious kid who leaves super happy. A day where all my check up and cleaning patients are cavity free is awesome too.
I also moonlight as a computer programmer; if you have ever sent my office a text message or booked an appointment online…then you are using my hand written software! My love for technology is spilling over into my dental practice. I am excited to be offering 3D x-rays, intra oral photos, and just recently same day crowns and digital impressions. Dentistry is changing rapidly and I am doing my best to stay up to date. I have travelled all over Canada and the US to train under some of the best doctors.
When I am not working I am probably hanging out with my wife and 4 kids. They keep me very busy. When I do have spare time, I am probably reading at my favorite coffee shop or running through the river valley.
Michelle RDA, Office Manager
Hi, my name is Michelle and I am the Office Manager at Summerlea Dental! I chose to work in the dental field so I could help patients achieve and maintain self-confidence with a healthy smile! I graduated from the Dental Assisting Program at KDM in 2009 and immediately started working with Dr. Jomha. I worked as both a Dental Assistant and Receptionist over the next 8 years before I chose to further my education by taking the Dental Practice Management program with UBC and took on the position of Office Manager. I recently celebrated my 10 year anniversary with Summerlea Dental, in fact, I was one of Dr. Jomha’s first employees!
What I love most about my job are the people! We have the greatest patients from all sorts of different backgrounds and culture and it is always fun and interesting to hear their stories. I have a passion for food and cooking so, outside of the office, you can usually find me in the kitchen trying out new recipes or discovering new favorite restaurants. I am also a true crime junkie and keep the staff up to date on all of the stories, documentaries, or podcasts I have on the go. But most of my spare time is always dedicated first, to my husband Rick and our 3 beautiful children who keep us very busy!
Hi, I’m Janice. I was born and raised in the Philippines and did my post-secondary education there. I arrived in Canada in 2016 and fell in love with the people and the place. I started working as a Dental Assistant in Dubai, UAE and since then I have shown love and dedication in the field. Although dental assisting is a very challenging job, I find that there is satisfaction in providing care and service to people.
In my spare time, I love to bake and do pastries. I also enjoy reading and most especially watch my all-time favourite TV show “Friends” over and over again. But, I can only do all of the things above when I put my family first.
Hey! My name is Maham. I am one of the Registered Dental Assistants and Head Receptionist at Summerlea Dental. I have been a part of the Summerlea Dental team since 2014.I graduated from the Dental Assisting program at NAIT in 2014.
I am glad I chose dental assisting as my career as it gives me the opportunity to meet new people everyday, and help them manage their dental issues and needs. I love keeping up with the new technology that is being introduced in the dental field, and plan to get specialized education related to my field. Being a part of an amazing dental team has helped me grow as a person and in the past 3 years, I have learnt a lot from Dr. Jomha, my other colleagues, and our patients. When I am not at work I love spending time with my family. My husband and I are usually out and about going on different adventures in our free time.
Hello, my name is Melissa. I am one of the Receptionists at Summerlea Dental! I gained years of customer service working as a store manager for HMV. After completing my 2nd maternity leave I started working as a receptionist for a chiropractic clinic which I loved and eventually it brought me to Summerlea Dental where I have been for over a year. My favorite part of my job is being able to help people, and working with such great colleagues. I am new to the Dental industry so I feel like I learn something new every day!
Music has always been a passion of mine and I am nicknamed the “Dental DJ” at Summerlea Dental, all the music you hear playing in the office has been handpicked by me! Outside of the office, I love movies, catching up with my friends, and spending quality time with my husband and our 2 kids.
Hey there, I’m Jose! I graduated at the University of Alberta in the Dental Hygiene Program in 1999. Shortly after graduation, I moved to Calgary, Alberta where I had many opportunities as a registered dental hygienist to practice in general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, neuromuscular dentistry and periodontics for 20 years. I believe in life-long learning and I continue to improve my knowledge and clinical skills by staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements in dentistry through continuing education courses. Being a dental hygienist allows me to partner with my clients in helping them achieve optimal oral health in a relaxed and caring manner. In addition, I believe in coaching my clients about the link between healthy gums and total body health.
In the spring of 2016, I decided to move back to Edmonton where I grew up to be closer to my amazing parents and growing family. I am proud of my Filipino heritage. I am excited and grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of Summerlea Dental Clinic family.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with family, my two beautiful Pomeranian dogs, and my amazing friends. I continue to find inspiration for my passion in fine arts and music. In my spare time, I enjoy working out, hot yoga, meditation, walking my fluffy dogs, hiking, biking, snowboarding and travelling.
Hi, I’m Amy the Registered Dental Hygienist here at Summerlea Dental and I love my job! I completed my schooling in 2009 at Texas State Technical College. After working as a hygienist for 2 ½ years, I participated in a mission trip for a year and a half in the states. When I returned in 2014 I started working at Summerlea Dental and have been here ever since!
One thing I appreciate about the field I work in, is the continual opportunity for growth and further education. The most fulfilling part of my job is when I see the transformation in my patient’s oral health in between their visits. I also love the fact that I get to talk with someone different every hour and get to know them on a personal level. Over the years of working here I’ve come to consider my patients as friends.
In my spare time I enjoy playing with my nieces and nephews, and spending time outdoors with my fiancé. I love kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and gardening in the summer and cross country skiing and skating in the winter. I also have a passion for travel and love hearing suggestions of where I should explore next!
